An International Patient 21-Year Battle with Fibroids Ends at Kailash Hospital

A 53-year-old international patient traveled to Kailash Hospital, Sector-71, Noida, seeking relief from a decades-long struggle with fibroids. After 21 years of enduring symptoms and challenges, she found expert care under the guidance of Dr. Neelam Benara, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, and underwent a successful surgery that marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life.

Presentation of Symptoms

The patient presented with complaints of heavy menstrual bleeding over the past six months, significantly affecting her quality of life. She also reported a long history of abnormal uterine bleeding, indicative of a severe gynecological condition requiring medical intervention.

Diagnosis

Following a detailed evaluation, including an MRI scan, the patient was diagnosed with a bulky uterus measuring approximately 22.5 x 13 x 17.5 cm, with multiple fibroids ranging in size from 1 cm to 10 cm. The largest fibroid, measuring 10.8 x 10.8 cm, was located in the intramural and subserosal regions. Additional findings included deformation and compression of the endometrial cavity, peripheral hemorrhage, and calcifications in the fibroids.

Condition Overview

Fibroids, also known as leiomyomas, are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that can lead to symptoms like heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and reproductive challenges. In this patient’s case, the size and number of fibroids had caused significant distortion of the uterine anatomy, leading to discomfort and a long-standing impact on her health.

Treatment Plan

The patient underwent Abdominal Myomectomy, a surgical procedure to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus. After pre-anesthetic clearance and informed consent, the surgery was performed under general anesthesia. Intraoperatively, the patient experienced excess blood loss, necessitating the transfusion of two units of packed red blood cells (PRBCs).

Following the surgery, the patient was closely monitored in the ICU for post-operative care and observation. Once stabilized, she was shifted to the ward and continued with supportive treatment to ensure a smooth recovery.

Outcome and Follow-Up

The surgery was successful, and the patient showed significant improvement in her condition. After stabilizing, she was discharged in a stable state with recommendations for regular follow-ups to monitor her recovery and overall health.

The patient expressed her gratitude for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Neelam Benara and the dedicated team at Kailash Hospital. She commended the hospital for its advanced facilities and patient-centric approach, making it a beacon of hope for those dealing with complex gynecological conditions.

Conclusion

This inspiring story showcases the expertise and dedication of Kailash Hospital in addressing even the most challenging medical cases. The patient’s recovery not only highlights the success of the surgical procedure but also reinforces the hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive care to international patients.
