A pulmonologist treats diseases related to the lungs and respiratory system, including asthma, COPD, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung infections, interstitial lung disease, and breathing disorders.
Pulmonary diagnosis may include Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), chest X-ray, CT scan, bronchoscopy, arterial blood gas analysis, and allergy testing to evaluate lung capacity and airway function.
Asthma management includes inhaler therapy, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, trigger identification, lung monitoring, and long-term respiratory care planning to control symptoms and prevent flare-ups.
You should consult a pulmonologist if you experience persistent cough lasting more than 3 weeks, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, recurrent lung infections, or unexplained breathing difficulty.
A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) measures how well the lungs take in air, hold air, and release air. It helps diagnose conditions like asthma, COPD, and restrictive lung diseases.
