     Guidance for getting medical tests done

Prior preparations required for getting various tests done
S.No Tests Requirement of prior preparations
1 MRI
  • No preparation required for routine cases, except in patients for MRCP or ABDOMEN.
  • In the case of MRCP or Abdomen, it requires 8 hours fasting or over-night fasting. However, plain water can be taken.
2 CT Scan
  • No preparation required for PLAIN CT Scan.
  • CT Scan for IV contrast studies, 6-8 hours fasting required & oral Contrast is to be taken for abdominal scans.
3 Ultrasound
  • Whole Abdomen - 6 - 8 hours fasting with full urinary bladder (only plain water can be taken)
  • Upper Abdomen - 6 - 8 hours or overnight fasting (only plain water can be taken ). No need to hold urine.
  • Lower Abdomen / KUB / Pregnancy - No fasting required. Full urinary bladder is required. Patient to take 5 - 6 glasses of water prior to examination and do not pass urine for 2 hrs before examination.
  • Neck, thyroid. breast, chest, orbit, craneal - No preparation required
4 Colour Doppler
  • Carotid, upper limbs, lower limbs (arterial / venous) - No preparation required.
  • Hepatitic, venous, portal, mesenteric & renal doppler - 6 hour fasting only.
5 Special conventional X-ray investigations -
  • Barium studies
  • IVP (intravenous pyelography)
  • HSG, RGU, MCU
  • Please contact Chief X-ray Technician / Doctor for guidance and preparations
  • Blood Urea & S. Creatinine reports are required for doing IVP.
6 Mammography
  • No preparation is required.
Notes for the interest of the patients:
  1. Please inform the Doctors or Technicians about any illness, allergy to drugs, etc. prior to the examination.
  2. Kindly bring with you all reports relating to previous investigations and studies.
  3. Female patients of reproductive age group (18-45 years) to kindly inform the technician about pregnancy prior to examination.

Department of Laboratory Sciences
Prior preparations required for getting various tests done

1 Blood Sugar Fasting, lipid Profile and ESR
  • Overnight fasting (8-10 hours)
  • All diabetic patients are advised to take their anti-diabetic drugs as prescribed by the Doctor.
2 Blood Sugar PP
  • 2 hours gap is required after taking normal breakfast
3 Urine Culture
  • Mid stream sample in a sterile container
  • If you have to get ultrasound done, please get the ultrasound done first and then give urine sample
All other test samples can be given at any time of the day.
  1. Please inform the Doctors or Technicians about any illness, allergy to drugs, etc. prior to the examination.
  2. Kindly bring with all your reports and films relating to previous investigations and studies.
  3. Female patients of reproductive age group (18-45 years) to kindly inform the technician about pregnancy prior to examination.
