
The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care is headed Dr. Anil
Gurnani, Group Director, Critical Care, Kailash Healthcare Ltd.. He is
also the Chief Coordinator, Infection Control Committee and Incharge CME
Activities of the Hospital.
A Graduate & Post Graduate from Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi and
Diplomat National Board in Anesthesiology; Dr. Gurnani was formerly Senior
Consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care at the
University College of Medical Sciences & G.T.B. Hospital, Delhi.
He has to his credit many National & International Publications in the
field of trauma, Anaesthesia & Critical Care, and Acute Poisoning. Dr.
Gurnani edited a book on trauma Anaestheisa & Critical Care, and
authored a book on Rescue & Resuscitation. Dr. Gurnani has attended
various international forums and seminars where he has presented papers and
posters. His special interest is in the field of Intensive Care, especially
Resuscitation & Mechanical Ventilation.
The Anesthesiology & Critical Care Department has five OTs, one
Endoscopy Unit and 5 ICUs - the Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, trauma ICU, High
Dependency Unit and Neonatal ICU catering to 60 critical care beds.

The strength of the department lies in its strong team
comprising of an institutional hierarchy, with Senior Consultants, Junior
Consultants, Senior Residents, Resident Medical Officers, Administrator &
PRO.
The department boasts of a dedicated paediatric anaesthesiology team which
provides services for all kinds of paediatric and neonatal surgery, with
back up of neonatal intensive care.
All the OTs are fitted with centralised anaesthesia gas
delivery system, laminar flow and equipped with modern anaesthesia machines.
It is supported by well structured, protocolized ICUs, equipped with
invasive and non-invasive monitors and 18 new generation ventilators, with
dedicated neonatal ventilators.
The department caters to a large number of cases per month under
anaesthesia that includes Neuro-surgery, Minimal Access Surgery, Joint
Replacement Surgery and Spine Surgery as well.
Another highlight of the department is its Critical Care transport Service,
which is able to retrieve any critically ill patient from far off places.
The Ambulance is like a mobile ICU, equipped with means to monitor and
ventilate during transportation.

Management
Of Poisoning & Snake Bites
The Critical Care is staffed with Intensivists duly
trained for "Poison Control in South East Asian Regional Organisation
(SEARO) Countries" by the World Health Organization (WHO), and equipped
to manage any kind of acute poisoning or evenomation (snake bites, scorpion
bites, etc.).
The Centre manages all kinds of insecticides / pesticides poisoning as well
along with provision of antidotes, as these kinds of poisoning are very
rampant in this part of the country. The victims are managed by a
specialised team by providing multi-organ life support system.
